Is Your Website Ready to Stay ‘Google Friendly’?

Is Your Website Ready to Stay'Google Friendly'?

By: Peter Sibilant

With a significant increase in mobile device users visiting websites over the past few years, and in many cases the percentage of mobile device visitor numbers now eclipsing that of their desktop cousins, Google will begin to assess websites for their mobile-friendliness as of 21 April, 2015.

In a statement from Google;

When it comes to search on mobile devices, users should get the most relevant and timely results, no matter if the information lives on mobile-friendly web pages or apps. As more people use mobile devices to access the internet, our algorithms have to adapt to these usage patterns.

Is your website ready for the change?

How do you know if your website is ready for the mobile compatibility ranking change? There are tools available to show how Googlebot views your pages. One such tool is the Mobile-Friendly Test provided by Google. Simply enter a URL you’d like to test and Google will inform you if your website is mobile compatible and what you need to do if it isn’t.

Big Rock Graphics takes pride in the fact that all produced websites have been mobile-friendly and responsive since 2012. Well ahead of this proposed change. So, if you were a Big Rock Graphics website customer after 2012, you can rest assured that your website is already mobile-friendly. It also means that, being a Big Rock Graphics website customer, your website will either not be affected by the coming changes or being so may actually improve your existing ranking on mobile device searches if a competitor’s website is not yet mobile-friendly.

Still not sure? Then simply check your website for mobile-friendliness with the Mobile-Friendly Test Google tool and see if you and your website is ready for the April 21 2015 change. Don’t allow your SERP (Search Engine Results Page) ranking suffer.
